2020 – A Reality Check
Though I have promised back in my first post here that I’ll be posting game development related stuff, I haven’t actually gotten around to fulfill this promise. For the record, in February I have lost my daily job and my only income, and as a month later COVID-19 has changed everything, I saw this as an opportunity to focus completely on game development and just live off of my savings.
I have been working on a game idea since 2016 but by the March of 2020 I have built several prototypes for it using various technologies, starting from Java/LibGDX, then C#/Unity and GDScript/Godot. This game is a moderately ambitious project which absolutely requires professional, high quality artwork, so, thinking of survival, with a heavy heart I have decided to put it back to the shelf and start a different game of significantly smaller scope.
By the summer of 2020, having made significant progress with this next prototype I realized that it’s just… not fun. Since COVID-19 was still among us, I took another leap of faith and started to work on yet another game idea, which is still not in a shape that I could show anything about.
This is my current situation, and I believe I won’t make another promise, except that when I have something to talk about, I definitely will.
Game design and development is hard.
